The Knicks arrive at Game 81tonight against the Miami heat with the possibility of fluctuating between the8th to 11th spot in this upcoming 2009 NBA draft lotto. Currently the Knicksstand in the 9th spot among the leagues lowly bottom feeders with the hope thata bolt of lightning, in the form of a number 1 draft pick, and some shrewddrafting can help stem the tide of their decades long misery of consecutivelosing season.  However, for theKnicks to improve their miserable luck in this years draft lotto by even1.1(8th spot) or 2.6 (7th spot) percentage points, the Knicks will have to posta win total below that of the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors whocurrently hold the 8th and 7th position in this summers draft.

A quick look at the reaming schedule of the teamsthe Knicks must surpass in this late season version of Limbo reveals thatKnicks fans rooting for a more favorable lottery spot will have to do someheavy rooting against the Knicks and rooting for some strong finishes for the 4other active teams currently above or below the Knicks in the limbo derby. Sothe following is a summary of the teams whose draft position relative to theKnicks could still change at this late juncture in the regular season.

NJ Nets, currently sitting at the 11thspot in this upcoming draft are currently two full games above the Knicks andmerely need to get one win to secure a playoff spot above that of the Knicks. The Nets will have two opportunities to do so with one home game remainingagainst the Cha. Bobcats, and their road finally against the Knicks. There ofcourse is every incentive for the Nets to tank those two games but perhaps homecourt pride will push them to give their fans a final win at the Izod Center.

Milwaukee Bucks, reside at the10th spot in this upcoming years draft lottery. Like the Nets they merely needto obtain one win to lock up a position in the draft lottery above that of theKnicks. The Bucks will have two chances to sure up a victory with a home gameagainst the reeling Orlando Magic who have lost two in a row, and a road gameagainst the Indiana Pacers. Like the Nets the Bucks will have every incentiveto get lower on that tank job limbo pole but at worst the Bucks like the Netscan go no lower than a 3 to 4 way tie with the Knicks, Nets and Raptors. A tiebreaker will be determined by a lottery of it’s own if seeding can’t beresolved by looking at the teams Division records or Conference records.

Toronto Raptors, currently holdthe 8th spot in the shameless lotto draft limbo derby with a 30-49 record, which is ˝ games worse than that of the Knicks. Unlike the Knicks, Nets andBucks, the Raptors have 3 games remaining and could conceivably tie theirrivals in the marathon of shame. The remaining three games for the Raptors willbe against the 76ers, the Wizards and the Bulls. The 76ers still have playoffpositioning to play for as they could slide between the 5th to 8th spot in theplayoff race but realistically would rather secure the 5th seed in the playoffagainst the Hawks rather than a matchup against Cleveland, Boston or Orlando. But because the game against the 76ers will be Toronto’s home game finallythere will be an incentive for the Raptors to give their fans a strong send-offfrom the season. The Bulls will likewise have the same incentive to continuewinning so as to avoid a playoff showdown with one of the Eastern Conference’sbig three teams. The last game for the Raptors against the Wizards is the onegame the Raptors could likely win b/c the Wizards may be attempting to limbolower than their Western Conference lotto rival the LA. Clippers.

Golden State Warriors, hold the lowestof the currently in flux lotto draft positions the Knicks might acquire.Currently at the th spot in the draft lotto limbo contest Knicks fans will haveto root for the Warriors would have to win all their remaining games, a highlyunlikely situation, and have the Knicks lose their remaining two games in orderfor both teams to meet a deadlock in their regular season record that can onlybe resolved by a flip of a coin or pre lotto,… lotto to determine the 7thlottery spot in the 2009 draft lotto. The Warriors remaining games will beagainst the Spurs at home and Suns on the road. The Spurs still have plenty toplay for this season, as they could rise in the Western Conference Playoffstandings to a spot as high as the 2nd spot in that conference’s playoffs. TheSuns on the other hand will hold the lowest lottery ticket with a locked in14th spot in the draft. But because the Suns will be playing their home finallyand perhaps be bidding adieu to the current collection of players that composedthat organizations team over the past half decade, there will be a bigincentive to win one for their fan base.

Well with today's loss and Toronto's win versus the 76ers, the Knicks are now in the 8th spot in the NBA draft lottery and have assured that they will not dropp below the 9th spot in that Limbo contest.

I'm cheering for Raptors and Warriors to surpass the Knicks this year in the standings and for the Knicks to draft wisely.

Fanatics.

Isn't this the worse time for us Knick fans?

No playoffs-Got watch teams like the Heat and 76ers (who were as bad as we were last year)-in the playoffs with a chance to advance.

Not time to trade

Not time to sign free agents

Not time for the draft yet-Walsh will blow this one too.

..And we are STILL losing........pass me a gun.

What ‘Lies’ won’t tell you.

Draft Preview Revisted. As you can see I wrote that if OJ Mayo stayed in college he would become the next Felipe Lopez, meaning his game would be scrutinized to such a point the pros would create reasons not to draft him. I never wrote that his pro career would equate to Lopez. This was compiled before the draft and the expert put out their opinions.

4/09/08
Potential Lottery Picks (Big-Small)

Roy Hibbert---Good skills, not a great athlete, lacks strength. Has asthma and can only play in spurts quality backup big man.

Brook Lopez---Good offensive skill with post-up game. Not a great rebounder, can play out on floor has length

Robin Lopez---Good on glass, blocks shots, lacks offensive game. Career backup

Mike Beasley---Scorer,nice shot, more of a 3 than a 4 in NBA. Will need time, but will have a solid career

Kevin Love--- Lacks verticality and lateral quickness. Able to overpower college players, in pros will meet those with similar strength. reminds me of Shelden Williams from Duke and we see his pro career. Measures out at 6.8, Mark Madsen Jr.

Tyler Hansbrough--measures at 6.7 with short arms, plays below the rim. Career bench warmer.

Darrell Arthur---soph needs stregth, good athlete, good jump-shot. needs 1-more year of college

James Mays--sleeper, good athlete, and works the boards

Brandon Rush--Good athlete, great skills, not fully recovered from ACL-injury, was a high-flyer.

OJ Mayo---needs the ball to be effective. Not ready for pros, but if he stays in college will become next Felipe Lopez.

Eric Gordon--more of a scorer than a shooter. Not sure he can play 1, measures at 6.2

Jerrod Bayless--scorer, shooter. more of a 2 than a 1. can't creat for others, but can ring the nets.

Derrick Rose--draft ASAP,the Prize of the draft. Size, speed, quickness. Stat stuffer. In todays NBA A STAR.

Fanatics,

Let's do our version of "keep him or Dump him" for the 2008-09 Knicks.

I'm ready..........ready to dump a bunch of Knicks. Here is what is said on the Knicks Fix:

Wilson Chandler (14.4 ppg/$1.2M in 2009-10, $2.1M in 10-11) -- KEEP
Why: Very affordable young player who can play starter's minutes and should continue to get better. Need to get him connected with a workaholic veteran who will put him on the right path.

Eddy Curry (3 GP/$10.5M in 2009-10, $11.2M in 10-11) -- DUMP
Why: Saying all he needs to do is get into the best shape of his life is like saying all Rihanna has to do is leave Chris Brown. And the contract.

Chris Duhon (2.54 assist-to-turnover/$6M in 2009-10) -- KEEP
Why: One year left on the contract doesn't hurt and if you can bring in a veteran starter (say, Jason Kidd, for example) Duhon could be a solid backup. Maybe the fact that he's in a contract year will motivate him to be in better shape and stay in shape all year.

Danilo Gallinari (44.4 percent 3PT/$3M in 2009-10, $3.3M in 10-11, $4.1M in 11-12) -- KEEP
Why: If and when he finally gets healthy from the back issues -- we'll say if -- he would be the best returning player.

Al Harrington (20.9 ppg/$10M in 2009-10) -- KEEP
Why: He's a scorer for three quarters and would be valuable off the bench, as long as he can accept that role. In a contract year, however, he might not. But his expiring contract could have value.

Larry Hughes (11 ppg/$13.6M in 2009-10) -- DUMP
Why: Could be a veteran to stash on the bench and bring in for scoring, but if you're depending on him to play a major role in the rotation next season things didn't go well at all this summer. He should be an expiring to trade.

Jared Jeffries (5.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg/$6.4M in 2009-10, $6.8M in 10-11) -- DUMP
Why: He's played well in the second half, but the contract is too expensive for the role he would play going forward. If he can be moved, you move him. But no rush, he could be helpful for one more season.

David Lee (64 double-doubles in 80 GP/Restricted Free Agent) -- KEEP
Why: Unless you can move him for a star-level talent, Lee is a foundation player that you want on your team to build around a superstar. David has to recognize the cap situation and decide if he prefers to be in New York or possibly take more money somewhere else.

Quentin Richardson (36.5 3PT/$8.7M in 2009-10) -- KEEP
Why: Won't have any value this summer, but as an expiring might be usable in a mid-season trade. And he could help off the bench in the meanwhile, because you have to expect him to want to come into camp trimmer and once again as a three-point shooting threat to earn himself another contract.

Nate Robinson (17.3 ppg off bench/Restricted Free Agent) -- DUMP
Why: His value may never be higher than it is right now. Yes, it's a risk to give up such a dynamo off the bench, but there are so many peripheral issues with his game -- focus, consistency, maturity -- that you have to consider all options. Of course if the market is weak and you can re-sign him for cheap (under $4M), that's another story.

Chris Wilcox (52.7 FG%/Unrestricted Free Agent) -- DUMP
Why: He'll get a decent offer from someone and would prefer it where he would get minutes.
