KNICKS FANATICS

Isiah's Parting Shots

I'll be the first to reminisce about Pat's sweat dripping chin as he idles by the free throw line during a spirited playoff performance. I fell over myself when Mase arrived to a game with "Mase In Yo Face" shaved into his head. I loved watching Derek Harper with his head up on the break or the weird hitch in his shot. John Starks "fire and desire" are unquestionable. Oak, the prototypical enforcer with a surprisingly smoother outside shot.
Those are just some of the heroes from the 90's Knicks era.

But what I remember most was how unceremoniously they were criticized, fractured and ultimately dismantled. The culprits? Unappreciative fans and bored reporters. People who berated these Knicks who lost to, what history has proven, the best player in NBA history on a team he led to 6 championships.

Patrick Ewing is no slouch, the HOF has affirmed it this past week.
Isiah Brows
For some unknown reason, after all the public scrutiny and disdain, Isiah still wants to be "a part of the process" that puts together a championship winning team in NY. No fan can want more. Right or wrong, Isiah had this to say:

“I’m on the job and I look forward to making it better,” he said. “Our job and our goal is to one day win a championship here, and I have every intention of being a part of that process.”

“New York is a unique situation in it’s own right and it brings unique problems, but that’s why we’re here to iron these things out and work them out and continue moving,” Thomas said. “The last championship here that was won was 1973 and there’s a lot of work that needs to be done and there’s work that has been done and there’s more that we’ll continue to do. You just don’t jump up and win championships. New York has threatened to win a couple of times, but you’ve never really won and I want to win it and everything we’re trying to do here is build it so one day we can win a championship."

“I was laughed at in Detroit when I was talking this way and a couple of years later, after putting in the work, eventually we did it. I have extreme confidence that we’ll get it done here. You can mock and laugh along the way because that’s how it goes when you’re on the bottom and you’re trying to get to the top, but I’m extremely confident that we will get to the top as a Knick organization. We will deliver something that one day everyone will be proud of. Again, you haven’t been proud here since ‘73. So we’ve got our work cut out and I intend to stick it through and stick it out. It’s a tough place and you deliver tough blows, but my job is to take it, and to keep moving, and to move through it. I’ve won in this league several times, and I intend to win more times than that. Say what you want and do what you want, but one day you’ll be asking me how’d it feel when I was sitting here, and I’ll tell you how I felt, then I’ll talk to you about the championships hopefully we’ll deliver for you.”

You're a loser until you win it all. Isiah wanted to remind us all that we haven't won it all since 1973. Thanks Isiah...I think. I hope you feel better now that you've got that off your chest.

You better hope Donnie sees the humor in it too.

I love those Knicks from the 90's even from the Bernard King days, but
they did not win the CHIP! They broke hearts along the way!
Zeke spoke the truth! Not winning the CHIP is like buying a Lottery ticket
that has 3 out of 6 numbers! You may win $10 but not the 130 million Jackpot!
The truth hurts! So be it! Great post Barf!

GS and Denver TONIGHT!!! BIG GAME!

"We are still in the lead, we still have the tiebreaker," Nuggets coach George Karl said. "I don't think we need to go crazy and panic because we have to go win a game on the road."

The Warriors would seem to have an advantage for having gone through this situation before. During last year's 9-1 finishing kick, and even the 7-4 stretch before that, Golden State played knowing that almost any loss would knock it out of the playoff race.

"This year is more of a grind, but at the same time, we're in it, and we have an opportunity to get hot right now," Warriors point guard Baron Davis said. "Night in and night out, you know that your life is on the line. We're used to that, and we just have to come out (Thursday) with the resolve to win this game."

To Jackson, the recipe for victory requires a little bit of everything.

"Transition defense, make Carmelo (Anthony) take tough shots all night, and make our shots, and we'll win," Jackson said. "It's really simple."

@ Statesman,

I just got off the phone with Lives. We agree on these facts!

1. Walsh makes a lot Less money than ZEKE 24 Million to 15 Million

2. Walsh gave Zeke his first coaching Job!

3. Walsh even stated we hadn't won a Chip in a long time!
(note the NY Media did't attack him?)

4. Zeke will most likely stay on as Coach but his staff may go
and a defensive coach brought in!

5. Walsh is no spring chicken. A quick assessment looking at
him is that his health and age is not up to par to
take on the Roll in NY that requires more than he can give
Physically or Mentally.

6. If Zeke were to be fired it would of happened the day Walsh took
over as President

7. Dolan is still running this ship despite what he TOLD
walsh to say!

This is speculation....but money is also a factor!
I believe Jame's contract will be the first priority
to get rid of! Zeke will start the season as Coach
as his last chance to turn the ship around!

Thanks for that Game info Barf!
The GSW are my 2nd favorite team!
I love to watch them as they may be the most entertaining team
in the league. I will be watching!

Anyone see the Spurs and Suns last Night?
Last night the Suns bitched slapped the Spurs in San Antonio!
Shaq played like he was 20 years old! Bowan and Amare
almost had a brawel as Bowan took a cheap shot @ Amare's ribs
and had to be restrained to keep from whooping Bowan's ass!
Ducan tried to Block an Amare dunk...but Amare was so strong he dunked it and almost put Ducan in the hoop too! Bottom line the Suns destroyed the Spurs.....and will do so again if they meet in the playoffs!
I knew Shaq had a lot more hoop in him at 35 than what he showed in Miami
this year!

Shit, if I knew my boy was interviewing me I would've fallen back on the MSG media policy. (LOL)

Thanks for the positive feedback on the site States, Af and others. There is more to come.

Later.

Peace, try the standalone playlist (click the button under the blog playlist) and the standalone list will not refresh every time you change pages. The blog playlist will refresh, but just press pause.

Peace,

Anyone who reads the transcripts knows that Donnie and Isiah have said very similar things lately.

What happens when next season rolls around and Isiah is still coaching?

I, for one, am tired of Herb Williams. At least with Eddy, I can see what Aguirre has taught him. DLee showed moves around the basket this yr that he lacked last yr. But what is Herb's specialty? If it defense...I haven't seen any improvement in the big's defense. Herb was never the best big on the Knicks' squad anyway so why all the loyalty?

Our big's need help. If it's Pat or Laimbeer, I really don't care. But the defensive side of the ball needs some serious attention and coaching.

How did Shaq do? Did he look strong?

I can't believe the magic they worked on him. I thought he was better than what he was showing at Miami this yr but I didnt know he'd be back...albeit...a much older Shaq. But, hey, at 35 yrs old (?)...he's still a force on both ends and you know old folks got enough noodle to compensate for the loss of athleticism and pop. Good to see he and Grant Hill doing their thing.

Phoenix is the Fountain of Youth (tm). HAHA

Peace:
The mere fact that Zeke has most of the players loyalty would mean he's coming back in some capacity.
The fact that Zeke fucked up on many levels this year, I wouldn't bring him back as coach. These players need a new voice, and we need to get rid of the malcontents to get this thing going in the right direction.
Zeke's talents are needed by this organization, and it would be a shame if he's let go totally.

Loved Pat and the 90s teams but to quote Reese Bobby - "Remember, son - If you're not first, you're last!" What we all loved about those 90s teams was that they were competitive and had a chance to win every game regardless of the opponent. I agree that they ran into a buzz saw with Jordan and Co. I wish it was different but it's not. 1973 is a long azz time ago and saying that may be IT's way of saying FU.

I think that comment was not thought out but an impromptu statement that he probably wishes he had a do over to rephrase. But the damage is done. I believe that Dolan would and will spend what it takes to get a championship. We'll see if that happens with all the changes that will probably be made. But I was a Knick fan before and will be after any change made and will continue to root for my team and to try to figure what would improve my team. But for the fairweathers, I wonder now what they will be satisfied with.

What IT just did, intentional or not, was to move the goalpost. To say that you shouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a championship will cause irritation in many. Because of the record, it is hard for many to believe that we have even a chance to be competitive. I really believe we have been competitive in spite of. Despite the occasional blowout, I could see we were just a few pieces away. While I think this comment may have been his swansong, I agreed with the logic he used in building the franchise for the mostpart. It really is nearly impossible to rebuild in the classic tradition in NY. You have to not only have thick skin, you shouldn't have any relatives or friends.

I don't know what'll happen, but personally I would rather see IT stay if he's going to coach for real. If he's going to dog it the way he has with the sub patterns this year, then he can get to steppin'. I've had as much as I can stand of tanking. But it does show that the game ain't exactly straight; rogue refs, frosty balls and all.
